History

The White Rose Kyudojo was founded in 1986, and is the oldest kyudo club open to the public in the UK. Since its beginning the White Rose Kyudojo has achieved many examination passes up to Renshi and 6th Dan, as well as teams and members winning the European Style Prize, the European Inter-Cities Championship and the Miyakanojo International Tournament. The European Inter-Cities Championships were inaugurated at the dojo in 1988.

The White Rose Kyudojo is the Headquarters Dojo for the British Association for Japanese Archery (BAJA), the first democratic Kyudo association in the United Kingdom, with members holding the first three presidencies, and the current presidency, as well as the presidency of the European Kyudo Federation.

BAJA is a member of the Grand National Archery Society, the Government recognised governing body for Archery in the United Kingdom affiliated to FITA and the British Olympic Association. BAJA is also a member of the Martial Arts Development Commission and all instructors are insured under the licences issued by them. BAJA are honoured to have The Earl Grey, whose family established the famous tea blend known all around the world, as their patron.
